The Milwaukee Brewers kept it about baseball in the rough and tumble series with the Tampa Bay Rays, winning the finale at American Family Field Wednesday afternoon 7-1. Willy Adames had the biggest bat with a pair of home runs and four driven in. After William Contreras got things going with a two run double in the third, Adames made it 3-0 with a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth. Blake Perkins delivered a run scoring double in 4th and that got Adames back to the plate and he launched a three run shot that landed at nearly the identical spot at the right-center field wall. It was his third homer in the last two games against the Rays. Colin Rae worked six scoreless innings or the win, allowing just four hits while striking out five. The only Tampa run was charged to reliever Abner Uribe in the 8th. Uribe learned his discipline from Tuesday’s brawl. Major League baseball suspended him six games for taking a swing at Jose Siri of the Rays. Freddy Peralta was hit with a five game suspension for throwing at Siri who homered against earlier in that contest. Siri, along with Brewers manager Pat Murphy were given two game suspensions by MLB. The players have appealed the punishment while Murphy decided to start serving his suspension immediately. Rickie Weeks handled the managerial duties on Wednesday. The win keeps the Brewers atop the NL Central at 19-11, a half game better than the Chicago Cubs who improved to 19-12 after a 1-0 shutout of the New York Mets. After a day off Thursday, the Brewers will have a reunion at Wrigley Field as they take on the now Craig Counsell-led Cubs in a big weekend series with first place in the division on the line.
