GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A special program that gives high school students a chance to explore the law enforcement profession is returning for its 24th year.
Applications are now being accepted for the Teen Police Academy, organized by the Green Bay Police Department and Brown County Sheriff’s Office.
Students will meet with law enforcement officers and the forensics team and learn about specialty units such as Dive Team, K9 and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT). Teens will also participate in hands-on demonstrations, testing their skills at techniques such as lifting fingerprints. Additionally, the program includes tours of the Brown County Sheriff’s Office and the Brown County Jail.
Teen Police Academy is scheduled for June 17-20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day at the Green Bay Police Department. Lunch will be provided. Class size is limited to 30 students, so registrants are asked to commit to attending.
Brown County students in grades 9-12 for the 2023-24 school year are invited to apply. Applications will be accepted through May 24.
GBPD says a criminal background check will be run on each applicant and anyone with a felony arrest record will not be eligible to attend. Participants under the age of 18 will require the signature of a parent or guardian.
