WASHINGTON, D.C. (WTAQ-WRN) — On Capitol Hill, foreign aid bills for Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan advance to likely House votes on Saturday.
“Ukrainians are fighting for democracy, theirs and ours,” said Massachusetts Democrat Jim McGovern. “And they have been set back as a result of Republican extremism.”
A resolution to take up all three bills passed Friday morning. Wisconsin Democrat Mark Pocan and Republican Tom Tiffany voted no.
On the individual bills, Pocan is likely to support aid to Ukraine but oppose it for Israel.
Tiffany says he’ll likely support aid for Israel and Taiwan but oppose it for Ukraine.
The votes come amid efforts by MAGA Republicans to oust House Speaker Mike Johnson.
