GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Gustavo Cantu was sentenced Friday to 35 years in prison for his role in a 2022 murder on the city’s west side.
Alejandro Cantu was previously sentenced to 15 years in prison, while Jacob Ventura will be sentenced June 17 for his participation in the shooting death of Randall Denny at Perkins and Western avenues on April 30, 2022.
Police have said the murder appeared to be tied a drug deal, with prosecutors adding that a theft by Denny — including money, drugs, and weapons — was a motivating factor.
Gustavo Cantu, 42, was previously convicted of felony murder-armed robbery.
In addition to the prison time, he was placed on extended supervision for 13 years by Judge Thomas Walsh.
Before the sentence was issued, Cantu apologized to Denny’s family.
“It hurts to see them and what they are going through,” he said.
Denny’s mother, Lynette Butler, lamented the loss of her son and described the impact his death has had on the family. She called Cantu a “coward” for his actions.
