GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — 45 new street banners were hoisted Monday throughout the Shipyard District.
These banners will be on permanent display along South Broadway, State Street and 9th Street in a show of community identity, history and shared mission.
Featuring four alternating designs, the banners were designed by Tarl Knight, a local artist who also serves as the director of Shipyard District, Inc.
The banners are one of numerous improvements to district streetscapes since the Shipyard District was formally recognized by the city of Green Bay in February.
Shipyard District President Jeff Hunter says it’s part of a branding campaign and a broader mission to revitalize the business community.
“I guess the goal is to have more successful businesses, but in the process of that, we want to service people. We want to be a good part of the community,” said Hunter. “Certainly, there’s been a little bit of a stigma with South Broadway… Even many of us who have businesses down here may have been a little hesitant at the beginning. But if you come down and give it a try, you’ll really enjoy what we have to offer.”
