(GREEN BAY ATHLETICS) – ST. PAUL, Minn. –The Green Bay softball team dropped a pair of games at St. Thomas on Tuesday, falling in game one 9-0, and game two 9-3.
GAME 1 | St. Thomas 9, Green Bay 0
Green Bay was not able to score a run against St. Thomas pitcher senior Christina Crawford on Tuesday and were shut out 9-0 in game one.
St. Thomas on the other hand had the offense going early and often, putting up five runs in the first inning and four more in the second before closing the game out in five innings.
Paeton Kringel got the ball to start for Green Bay and took the loss. Ava Schill pitched four innings in relief.
GAME NOTES
» Ebner led the Phoenix at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a double. Grace Kahr was the other Phoenix to register a hit.
» St. Thomas outhit GB 12-2.
GAME 2 | St. Thomas 9, Green Bay 3
Green Bay got on the board first in game two when Aidyn Messmann doubled to left to score Madyson Baker.
The Tommies had an immediate answer, scoring three runs in the bottom of the second and six more in the third to take a 9-1 lead.
The Phoenix almost fell to another run rule before Claire Coushman drove home Grace Kahr in the fifth inning to extend the game into the sixth and seventh innings. GB tacked on another run in the seventh after Sidney LaMotte singled home Jenna Redders. That was as close as GB got, however, falling 9-3.
Genesis Eggart got the ball to start for Green Bay and took the loss.
Messmann had two extra-base hits that were the highlight of the GB offense. She finished a 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI in game two. Freshman Claire Coushman furnished a noteworthy effort as well, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
GAME NOTES
» The Phoenix outhit the Tommies at a 9-8 clip.
» Senior Ella Cook led the Tommies pitching staff, throwing five innings of two-run ball.
ON THE HORIZON
The Phoenix is back at King Park this weekend when they host Youngstown State on Friday at 2 p.m. followed by a Saturday doubleheader against the Penguins starting at noon.
