APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) โ A member of Gov. Tony Eversโ administration made a stop in the Fox Valley on Monday to check out the new Appleton Public Library.
Wisconsin Department of Administration Secretary Kathy Blumenfeld toured the major upgrades made to the library as part of a $40 million project that included a $2 million grant from Evers.
City property taxes made up the bulk of the libraryโs funding with more than $26 million. The libraryโs fundraising group also raised about $12 million dollars.
The Appleton Public Library officially reopened last month after an 18-month renovation process. It was one of 50 projects to receive funding out of more than 250 applications.
Blumenfeld said libraries remain important investments, and she believes Appletonโs should be a model for others.
โIn so many communities โ whether youโre a child, a family, a worker, a student, a senior โ there is something for everyone,โ Blumenfeld said.
Among those who joined Blumenfeld on the tour were the libraryโs director and assistant director, Appleton Mayor Jake Woodford, State Rep. Lee Snodgrass and the Appleton Common Council president.
